Ani A. was born in 1986. She grew up in Gavar orphanage. Ani weaves carpets. Ani’s dream is to study at the University. She is currently learning English, French, and Russian.
Ani T. was born in 1990 in Etchmiadzin. In 1996 she was placed at Gavar orphanage where she lived until joining Mer Doon. Ani completed secondary school in 2007 and is the most recent resident to join the Mer Doon family. Ani plans to continue her education at Krikor Lusavorich University in Etchmiadzin, where she hopes to train as a psychologist. Ani is a talented carpet weaver, and loves to dance.
Diana was born in 1988 in Karabagh. Not knowing why or how, she found herself in the Gavar orphanage in 1996 and lived there until she was accepted as a resident at Mer Doon. Diana studies at the Grigor Lusavorich University and hopes to be a psychologist.
Hamest Hamest was born in the Alaverdi district of Armenia in 1985. She lived at Gavar Orphanage from 1992 until May 3, 2007 when she came to Mer Doon. Hamest graduated from Gavar State Medical College with a nursing degree. She is a talented weaver of carpets, but dreams of finding employment in her trained profession as a nurse. She is enjoying the opportunity to live with the other residents at Mer Doon as a family and develop the skills needed to live independently from orphanage life.
Hasmik was born in 1986 and lived with her mother until she was eight years old. She lived in the Gavar orphanage from 1996 until November 2006 when she moved to Mer Doon. Hasmik dreams of being a professional chef, having a family and children.
Inna was born in 1984. She was born in Karabagh, and, along with her younger brother, lost her family in the war. In 1996 Inna and her brother went to the Gavar orphanage and she lived there until she moved to Mer Doon in January 2007. “I found here hope and love.” Inna dreams of studying and working, and eventually to marry and have a happy family.
Ira was born in 1988 in the city of Sirdaria in Uzbekistan. She lived at Gavar orphanage from 1996-2004. She is studying in the Yerevan State Institute of Cinema and Theatre and hopes to become an actress. “I think about a good future and I want to make it better with my own hands.” Ira received an award at the end of the Spring 2008 school year for her active participation in the scientific conference at Grigor Lousavorich University.
Lianna is Diana’s younger sister, born in 1990 in Karabagh. Although she recalls that her father was a soldier, she does not recall how she came to live at the Gavar orphanage in 1996. Lianna believes that “God wished so.” Lianna dreams of becoming a teacher because of her love for children. She is currently studying to make her dream come true. Lianna married Vahe Ghazarian in February 2008, and is currently expecting her first child. She lives with her husband and his family in the village of Apaga, in the Etchmiadzin region.
Lilit was born in 1989 in Vardenis. She was placed at Gavar orphanage because her family was in poor financial condition. Lilit studes at the Grigor Lusavorich University in the field of Pedagogy and Psychology. "I feel good in 'Mer Doon', because there are wonderful conditions here." Lilit hopes to give back to the community by becoming a psychologist.
Lusine lived in the Gavar Orphanage from the time she was a small child. She recently joined the family at Mer Doon after she finished secondary school. Lusine wants to become lawyer. She is currently studying at Echmiadzin Gr. Lusavorich University as a pre-law major. She is a talented dancer, and enjoys dancing as a hobby during her breaks from school.
Varsenik, a talented weaver, is Mer Doon’s first “graduate.” Originally from Gavar Orphanage, Varsenik was one of the first and the oldest of the residents at Mer Doon. In November 2007, Varsenik married Samvel Sargisyan, who works as a builder. She met Samvel while he participated in the early construction work of the Mer Doon facility in Etchmiadzin. In addition to her Mer Doon family, Varsenik now joins Samvel’s large family, and is gaining a father, mother, 3 sisters, and a brother. They will live in the village of Haytagh, in Etchmiadzin. |
